We swear we don’t cry-those darn ninja pandas are once again cutting onions. Ben Hed, one of the best known Instagram artists and the creator of the Instagram account for Pet Foolery, has illustrated perhaps the most important comic in the Pixie And Brutus saga.

The full story and the emotional details behind how Brutus the dog got his scars while serving in the military were finally revealed by Ben. Dear Readers, we’re not going to spoil anything for you, so go ahead and look for yourselves. But prepare yourself to feel some epic feelings. Do you need some Pet Foolery comics that are funny and light to pick you up after this one? We have you covered.

Artist Ben told Bored Panda that it took far longer to create the newest comic than any other comic he has posted on Instagram so far. The explanation for this was the amount of work he put in: not only in drawing the cartoon, but also in the study.”This comic took longer, partly because of the length and detail, and partly because of the amount of research I put into it before drawing anything, than any other comic I posted to Instagram,” Ben said.

“This was the most important and serious comic in the Pixie and Brutus series, I would say, so I took my time with it to make sure I got it right,” Ben explained why he spent so much of his time on the comic.

Brutus finally revealed to Pixie how he got his scars

Some people were not pleased about how things were depicted in this comic, so on his Instagram, artist Ben explained that all was researched and point by point he went through all of the criticism.

Pet Foolery is Instagram’s true art whale. On the website, Ben’s account has over 2.4 million loyal followers and it doesn’t look like their numbers will ever stop rising. As long as Ben keeps pouring in his cute and emotionally strong drawings so much care and attention.

Bored Panda talked to Ben earlier and he was honest about how he had revised Pixie and Brutus’ design slightly and put in a few comics where Pixie was a little older. But before you start thinking that the comics of Pet Foolery are changing too much, Ben said it’s still “the same ol ‘Pixie and Brutus,” with only a few slight tweaks. And a few alterations never affected anybody. They help keep stuff fresh.

New and exciting ideas for what to draw next and where to move the story are one of the main challenges that recurring cartoon artists face. No exception is Ben. He was candid that coming up with new jokes and ideas is “getting harder and harder.” Luckily, so far, he seems to be doing great and we’re sure he’s going to face the challenge and come out on top every time.
